It shocked the hip-hop community last week when news broke that Lil Peep had passed away on Nov. 15.

The Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner revealed that he most likely died from drug overdose, fans have viewed this mishap as an opportunity to express their concerns of how depression likely played a part in his untimely passing. Shortly after his passing, photos began to circulate about his indirect cry for help with his addiction. His brother, Oskar, believes that these claims are false and details more about the emerging rapper in his recent interview with People:

“We [the family] have heard there was some sort of substance he did not expect to be involved in the substance he was taking…He thought he could take what he did, but he had been given something and he didn’t realize what it was…It was an accident, it really was an accident. He was super happy with where he was in life.”

Oskar is aiming to put out some of Peep’s unreleased music with Makonnen, which he says “is a lot happier.”
