A Donald Trump protester could face serious prison time for attempting to snatch a police officer’s gun during a Trump rally at the Treasure Island casino hotel in Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

It’s still unclear to what Michael Sandford (the protestor) was planning to do with that gun, or whether he was planning to harm Trump or others with it. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials have stated that Sandford approached the officer and started a conversation “under the pretense that he was seeking an autograph” from Trump, before attempting to swipe the officer’s gun from its holster.

Sandford was placed in handcuffs and handed over to the Secret Service, which is tasked with the security duty for proteecting Trump at campaign events. CNN reports that the Secret Service has charged Sandford with two federal crimes, and his maximum sentence, if convicted, would be 10 years.
