Snapchat’s New Feature Will Now Let You Save “Personal Moments”

via Engadget

Snapchat is switching things up — and in a big way. The rising social media app is introducing a new feature called ‘Memories,’ which will let you save “personal moments” to your camera roll.

You can find Memories directly under the camera button, and accessible by simply swiping upwards to view your saved pics and videos. Searches for snaps or stories things like ‘Houston’ can be found instantly and shared Memories, too.

It seems that the main reason Snapchat created this new feature is to broaden sharing, especially for the baby boomers and Generation Xers who are becoming familiar with the service:

You can use Memories to create new Stories from Snaps you’ve taken, or even combine different Stories into a longer narrative! It’s fun to celebrate an anniversary or birthday by finding a few old Snaps and stringing them together into a new Story 🙂

We’ve also created a new way to send Snaps from Memories to your friends, or even post them to your Story. If you post a Snap you took more than a day ago to your Story, it will appear with a frame around it so that everyone knows it’s from the past.

Memories is expected to release in the next month or so, according to reports. Users’ saved photos or videos will be stored to their phone’s photo album. In the meantime, Snapchat is working on a way to securely save its users’ candids to its servers.
