If the rumors between OVO’s PartyNextDoor and our “Artist to Watch” Kehlani, have yet to heat up, they are surely on fire now.
After debuting his collaboration with Houston native Travi$ Scott, “No Feelings”, on OVO Sound’s Beat 1 radio show, PND slid an ode to the Oakland singer, appropriately titled “Kehlani’s Freestyle.” The track features the undeniably old school/90’s vibe that Party infuses into his music. Unafraid to tell the truth, the Canadian singer displays his true emotions about the “You Should Be Here” singer, cooing, “I can’t say I do better, no, no, no, but I act like I know better.”
The single art for the Soundcloud track is a previously unseen black and white photo of the pair, further fueling the notion to solidify the couple’s existence. Additionally, female vocals litter the track, leading many to believe that this is the first collaborative effort to come from the relationship.
As quiet as the two have been about the relationship, this is not the first song that has been dedicated to Kehlani. Many of the fans of both parties (pun intended) believe that “Girl From Oakland” from the PND Colours EP was written for her, a nod to her hometown. Also, at his Valentine’s Day show in Houston, PND serenaded Kehlani in front of the sold out crowd. Recently, during her concert in the same venue, the Tsunami Mob leader referenced that night as she covered PND’s verse on Drake’s “Preach.”
The song comes on the heels of the explicitly sultry video for Kehlani’s single “The Way”, featuring Chance The Rapper as her leading man. Perhaps Party is staking his claim? Only time will tell.
