One day after ending their winter break and announcing their sophomore album 7/27, pop phenomenon Fifth Harmony is back with the lead single “Work From Home,” featuring Black Sheep alum and R&B hitmaker Ty Dolla $ign.
Originally called “Work,” but changed to avoid confusion with Rihanna’s current chart topping hit, the quintet takes it to the construction site in the Director X-crafted music video. HGTV and combat boots seemed to be the theme, as each lady seduced the camera, dressed in work attire, handling heavy machinery, coming together in a final shot to crank out some killer choreography.
Dolla $ign, in trademark fashion, harmonizes his verse, before seemingly having a moment with group member and Houston native, Normani Kordei. Ty Dolla’s slick third verse was lauded by group member, Camila Cabello, who praised him for his “amazing flair” and melodic process. As unexplainable as the collaboration seems, Fifth Harmony recently shot to the top of the charts with their Kid Ink-featured “Worth It.”
Gearing up for the release of their album 7/27, which will see the light of day on May 20, the ladies of 5H plan to use their new project to harbor an edgier sound, as well as bring their uniqueness as a group to the forefront.
“We’ve definitely matured and grown in the last year,” Fifth Harmony said to Billboard. “We’re five different girls and we come from different cultures and backgrounds, and that explains our album 7/27. It’s all about how we started. 7/27 is the day we were formed, when we were placed together to become a group.”
On the short-lived U.S. version of the singing competition X-Factor, Fifth Harmony came together on July 27 at the whim of Simon Cowell, seeing their immense potential as a group.
As successful as their previous album Reflection still is, Fifth Harmony has set the bar high for 7/27, but if “Work From Home” is any indication, 5H will be around for years to come.
