Canada is the place to be musically: PARTYNEXTDOOR, Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, and, of course, Drake are all taking over the music scene. Not to be put off by this influx of similar sounding music coming from up north, Toronto newcomer Ramriddlz is throwing his hat in the ring with his newest EP Venis.
Going beyond the mellow-sounding, trap&b being produced by other artists in the area, Ramriddlz is perfect for the summer with his dancehall flair and West Indian vibes. Though not a vocal prodigy in any right, he vocally complements the executive production handled by Jaegen, who collaborated on Ramriddlz’s first EP P2P.
“When you listen to my music, it takes you to a different space.“
Between the NINE tracks, the only feature comes on “Come C Mi,” courtesy of pop vocalist (and Kylie Jenner BFF) Justine Skye. One of the stronger tracks, Skye and Ramriddlz take us on free 4-minute trip to a location both tropical and beachy, exchanging flirty, tongue-in-cheek verses over a whine-friendly beat. As a whole, the entire project is perfectly suited for the upcoming late summer nights, as the buzzing island riddims and sticky melodies will soon become the soundtrack for the season.
“When you listen to my music, it takes you to a different space. Venis is the planet where all you do is dance and play with babes,” said Ramriddlz, when asked about the EP’s not-so-subtle title. “On Venis, estrogen is the natural source of energy.” Although it’s not clear whether Ramriddlz is moonlighting as an astrophysicist, let us hope that he is not using B.o.B. as a reference point.
If you’re trying to remember how you know Ramriddlz, he was recently featured on Drake’s OVO Sound radio show, where the 6 God dropped a remix to Ramriddlz’s first single “Sweeterman.”
