Ronald Spencer Jr., also known as Ronny J, has been a vital force in the South Florida underground scene that took 2017 by storm. His first national recognition came from producing Denzel Curry’s breakout single “Ultimate.” However, more hardcore fans believe he was first recognized on a wide scale from Curry’s “Threatz,” which features Yung Simmie and Robb Bank$.
The rising New Jersey-born upstart has been active since the golden age of Raider Klan and continues to shape the sound of recent Florida prodigies like XXXTentacion, Lil Pump, $ki Mask The Slump God and more. Most often credited for the popularization of distorted 808s, his aggressive production style allows artists to explore new cadences and song structures.
It could be argued that Ronny was a key actor in ushering the punk era of rap with aggressive beats, short songs, and reckless shows. The producer began rapping on his own production around the time of him inking a deal with Atlantic Records.
His debut effort features the same heavyweights who he helped shape: from popular newcomers like Smokepurrp and Wifisfuneral to lesser known Florida acts like Nell and Danny Towers.
