New York’s own A$AP Rocky teams up with Memphis upstart BlocBoy JB for “Bad Company.” The hard-hitting banger is the first from Rocky since the handful of tracks he teased in January. While he’s previously said that his new album would be more experimental than previous work, his latest single seems to be in his comfort zone.
During a show in Berlin, Rocky told the crowd “the only reason I came to Berlin was to finish the album that I just finished.” While it’s more contemporary, “Bad Company” bears the same black and yellow color scheme of his earlier releases. This is not a coincidence for the rapper-turned-fashion-icon.
His creative direction company AWGE has been curating groundbreaking media in recent history. Noting that the SoundCloud description of “Bad Company” reads “TESTING,” and considering the color scheme of his recent artwork, in addition to the self-described “experimental” nature of the album, Rocky’s team have curated an alluding imagery of things like hazardous materials or crash dummies.
Whether or not the musical content will be truly experimental is up for you to decide, but it’s without doubt the Harlem representative is gearing up for one of the most unique album rollouts of this year.
