“Birds don’t sing no more, my phone don’t chirp or ring no more.”

Chris Rivers has been making a name for himself as a prolific artist. The 23-year-old rapper has been releasing music weekly in a series dubbed “Barzday Wednesday.” His latest installment “Birds” is a retro ballad over the beat of Big Sean’s “Living Single.” In the song, he illustrates a break-up from a first person viewpoint, from the build up to the bitter end and separation.

Rivers has grown immensely since his 2013 debut album Wonderland of Misery. His “Barzday Wednesday” series has proven him to be a versatile artist, rhyming over the beats of J.Cole, Lupe Fiasco, Tyler, The Creator and more.

The rapper’s full-length release Delorean, was an aptly titled futuristic project in reference to the car altered for time travel in the legendary Back to the Future films. Since his body of work remains highly conceptual and calculated, it’s interesting to watch him taking a new stylistic approach.
