Florida’s Denzel Curry returns with his new single “Sumo.” The Charlie Heat-produced track comes only two weeks after his collaborative effort “Uh Huh” with Maryland rapper IDK. Both songs are reminiscent of a younger Curry; the days where he recorded his smash hit “Ultimate,” except even more hard-hitting.
His raspy voice flows on “Sumo” blend perfectly over distorted 808s and an eerie orchestra of Asian mallets and bells, making it one of Curry’s most electrifying tracks in recent years. “Sumo” comes only hours after a series of cryptic tweets from the 23-year-old, hinting at a musical hiatus.
The timing for his rant is strange being that he had released a song two weeks prior, a song the day after, and had just finished half of a tour with A$AP Ferg that has been rescheduled for this summer. Whether or not he plans to release music soon, it’s clear from his last few tracks that Curry is doubling down on his style and spitting harder than ever.
